In the last few years, a perfect storm has led to New Zealand changing how it deals with CBD, hemp and medicinal cannabis. 2018 was a huge year with the government passing medicinal cannabis legislation, and also making a decision on the timing and binding nature of a cannabis recreational use referendum.
After reviewing public feedback, the Ministry of Health will release the Misuse of Drugs (Medicinal Cannabis) Regulations by the 18 December 2019 and the Medicinal Cannabis Scheme will be become fully operational in the first quarter of 2020.
And, separately, a national debate is being had around the legalisation of recreational cannabis use. All of which needs to be finalised before the 2020 general election.
Around the world too, CBD is becoming so mainstream that even consumer-goods and media maven Martha Stewart is jumping in and designing a new CBD lifestyle product range. She’s starting with a line for pets and then plans to introduce products for their human friends.
Here at Green Grass NZ, our mission is to keep you updated on all these interesting developments and to do the research on CBD, hemp and medicinal cannabis so you don’t have to.
